If
you would like to bring in some revenue from your holistic website but
you are reluctant to include banner ads or sell products, consider
joining the Google AdSense program.
It’s free to join, and with a small
investment of your time you could be bringing in a regular monthly
income from this program.
You’ve probably seen these “Ads by Google” links on other websites.
They do not take away from your website, or make you look
unprofessional. I think they actually add to your site, since the links
always relate directly to the content of the web page they appear on.
Any time someone clicks on one of the links from Google, you get paid a
small amount of money. The amount of money varies depending on the
particular link and the key word it’s associated with, (more on this
later) but it adds up over time. The person doesn’t have to buy
anything--just click on the link--therefore it happens pretty often.
Once I added Google AdSense to ShareGuide.com’s pages, we immediately
starting earning money--the very first month it was $150. That may not
sound like a lot of money, but it required very little effort on my
part, and the checks have been growing each month since I started. And
I know of websites that generate over $2000 per month from AdSense,
although you need a large volume of traffic for that.
HOW IT WORKS
Once you sign up [ go to https://www.google.com/adsense/
] and create an account, you are given code to place on your web pages.
You get to control where the links will appear, how they will look
(color scheme, shape, etc), and on which pages you want the links to
appear.
One of the great things about the way Google set up this program is
that the ads that appear are specifically related to the content on
your website. This actually enhances the experience for your visitor,
as they may find things through these links that they were specifically
looking for.
Of course, this program will only work if you have two things going for
you. Most importantly, you must have some good content on your website.
If all your website contains is just two or three pages with little
text, then this is not the choice for you. (And if this you, consider
adding a few articles!) You also need a certain amount of traffic, or
there won’t be enough people to click on the Google links to generate
any money for you.
Sometimes even websites with a small amount of traffic can do well with
AdSense. The reason for this is that the amount you are paid per click
varies with the subject matter. People bid on key words, which is what
these Google ads are based on. The more competitive the term (such as
“weight loss” or “detox product”), the higher the pay out. If your
website has pages with good content that relate to things people wish
to advertise, then you will get paid more money per click. See

The bottom line is many businesses are not making as much as they would
like from their websites--whether it’s from generating leads or from
selling products--and this program gives you a chance to recoup some of
your costs.
